Training Description:
SUICIDE PREVENTION is this year's Anti-Stigma Forum topic. Speakers will discuss the impact of the suicide epidemic and the importance of education and awareness. The Anti-Stigma Forum is held during Mental Health Awareness Month and focuses on issues of mental health and the associated stigma. Audiences invited to attend the free event include parents, grandparents, educators, social workers, high school students, youth groups, church members, pastors, law enforcement, first responders and others who need to learn why the epidemic is spreading so rapidly in SE Michigan. Afternoon workshops will also focus on how to identify the warning signs and how to help someone in crisis.

About the Speakers:
MICHELE REID, MD,
Chief Medical Officer-CNS Healthcare
- Chief Medical Officer at CNS Healthcare (VNS). CNS is an outpatient mental health provider with a $24 plus million budget, serving over 7,500 children, adolescents, adults and older adults with mental disorders including substance use disorders. Instrumental in the growth of CNS, assisting with securing $1.6 million, Primary and Behavioral Health Care Integration and $4 million Certified Community Behavioral Health Center Grants from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
- Implemented several initiatives including: Electronic prescribing for controlled substances Integrating the Michigan Prescription Drug Monitoring Program into the electronic health record. Securing over $361,000 in incentive payments from participation in the Medicaid meaningful Use, Medicare Physician Quality Reporting System and the Merit-Based Incentive payment System Telepsychiatry services.
- Served in various leadership roles in professional organizations including the American College of Psychiatrists, American Psychiatric Association, Michigan Psychiatric Society, Detroit Medical Society, Wayne County Medical Society Oakland County Medical Society and Michigan State medical Society. Currently, she is the Chairperson of the American College of Psychiatrics, Dean Award Committee and the Area IV Representative to the American Psychiatric Association Assembly for the Michigan Psychiatric Association. Dr. Reid has also served as the Chair of the Committee of Black Psychiatrics, a member of the Council on Minority Mental Health and Health Disparities and as ad representative of the Board of Trustees at the American Psychiatric Society, a District Branch of the American Psychiatric Association.
- BA from Fisk University and MD from Meharry Medical College, both in Nashville, Tennessee. nternship and psychiatric residency at Wayne State University, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at the Detroit Psychiatric Institute and the Detroit Medical Center.
- Board certified in psychiatry and neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Sean Campbell:
Mr. Campbell has developed much of his personal and professional energies to the field of substance abuse and mental health. Growing up in a household with a loving father who struggled with alcoholism and bipolar disorder, Sean became moved to discover, understand and share what is possible when we effectively promote positive mental health and holistic wellness. As a speaker and mental health advocate, Sean has traveled across the United States, Canada and the Middle East, presenting at more than forty college campuses and dozens of professional conferences, reaching over 20,000 individuals of various backgrounds on these topics. Previously, Sean has been involved in mentoring to support youth coping with mental health challenges, substances abuse issues and involvement in the criminal justice system. Sean’s efforts earned him the national SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) Voice Award for Young Adult Leadership in 2014. From 2016 to 2018, Sean worked in New Jersey state government for the NJ Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug abuse, overseeing the statewide administration of the State’s Municipal Alliance program, which funds substance abuse prevention initiatives across New Jersey. Currently, Sean is in his final year as a J.D> Candidate at Rutgers Law School.
Amy Stern:
Amy Stern is the Interim Program Manager at CNS Healthcare in Novi, MI, Oakland County, where she has been employed since 2004. She currently manages the therapy department, integrated care SAMHSA grant program, Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (SAMHSA grant program), student internship program and clinical licensures. Ms. Stern is also an adjunct faculty member at The University Michigan School of Social Work providing instruction to Master of Social Work Students in both child and adult mental health.
Amy Stern received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Women’s Studies (School of Social Work 2001) and her Master of Social Work (2002) from The University of Michigan
Continuing Education Credits: 3.0 Continuing Education Credits are offered for this training. Participants must arrive on time and remain in the training for it's entirety.
