Course Description:

This presentation provides an in-depth overview of human trafficking as it impacts pediatric and adolescent populations, with a focus on behavioral health settings. Participants will examine risk factors, recruitment tactics, trauma responses, and warning indicators specific to minors. The course integrates trauma-informed care principles, mandated reporting responsibilities, and interdisciplinary response strategies within crisis and community-based environments. Case-based learning will allow participants to apply screening tools, safety planning techniques, and referral pathways to real-world scenarios.

 

Course Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

1. Define labor and sex trafficking as they apply to minors under federal and state law.
 
2. Identify at least five behavioral and psychosocial indicators of trafficking in pediatric populations.
 
3. Analyze trauma responses commonly observed in trafficked youth.
 
4. Apply trauma-informed interviewing techniques appropriate for minors.
 
5. Demonstrate appropriate documentation and mandated reporting procedures.
 
6. Develop a coordinated referral and safety planning approach for suspected youth trafficking cases.
