Event Description/Learning Objectives:  This workshop is designed to help you:

1. Understanding the specific religious traditions that often cause problems for LGBT people, and alternate ways to understand them. - Jay Michaelson, J.D.

2. Learn strategies for dialogue with religious individuals regarding LGBT issues. - Jay Michaelson, J.D.

3. The learner will be able to use current research findings on LGBT mental health issues in providing psychotherapy to LGBT patients. - Judith Kovach, Ph.D.

4. Increase understanding of and strategies to facilitate coming out processes for youth and young adults. - Melissa Grey, Ph.D.

5. Clinicians will gain a straightforward knowledge structure and transferable resources to aid parents adjustment with their LGBT kids. - Anthony DeOrio, M.S.

6. Become familiar with and enrich their knowledge of some of the major psychosocial and sociocultural stressors encountered by adolescents and adults who are Asian American, Latino/a, Middle-Eastern, and African American and who also identify as gay or lesbian, in an effort to gain insights into these populations and why there is a need for cultural competencies and available resources when working therapeutically with such individuals and families. - Amorie Robinson, Ph.D.
