Presentation Content and Purpose:
The pressure in today’s healthcare environment for accountability, productivity, case loads and documentation
has greatly increased the demands on clinical managers, supervisors and all staff and team members.
This presentation is designed to heighten participants’ awareness of the need for self-care and a healthy team.
It will suggest ways to improve communication and multidisciplinary team work. Concepts and strategies will be offered to improve the functioning of the whole team, whether clinical, supervisory, fiscal, or administrative. The focus will be on conflict resolution policies and procedures; and how to understand and deal with frustrations in
the workplace to encourage hope and improve personal and team functioning.
Objectives:
Upon completion of the presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Identify pressures that impact the health and functioning of the staff team and understand the importance of
self-care in all team positions and roles.
2. Review communication, conflict resolution and coping strategies that promote team cohesiveness and improve self-care functioning.
3. Apply methods for resolving conflicts and dealing with frustrations to maintain health personally and for the whole team.
Presentation Leader:
David Mee-Lee, M.D. is a board-certified psychiatrist, and is certified by the American Board of Addiction Medicine (ABAM). He trains and consults both nationally and internationally. Dr. Mee-Lee has been the Chief Editor of all editions of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, ASAM’s criteria, including The ASAM Criteria – Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions, Third Edition (2013). Dr. Mee-Lee has over 40 years experience in person-centered treatment and program development for people with co-occurring mental health and substance use conditions. He is co-founder of the Institute for Wellness Education (IWE) and is President of DML Training and Consulting.
